Same-day cover after a fall in Wealdstone
A GP called at 9am about a woman in her eighties who had fallen at home overnight. Not injured badly enough for admission, but plainly not safe alone until something was in place, and her son was four hours away.
A carer was at the house by 11:40am. The first visit was deliberately unglamorous — a meal, a proper look around for trip hazards, and a call to the son so he knew exactly what he was driving back to. We flagged a loose rug and poor stair lighting and made an onward referral to the occupational therapy team, who assessed that week.
“I had been on the phone since eight expecting to be told to wait until Monday.”
