Careers at Skillcare

Warm, reliable people, supported properly and paid on time. Experience helps — but it is not where we start.

Care work is not for everyone, and we would rather say so plainly than dress it up. It asks for patience on difficult days, punctuality in bad weather, and the kind of attention that notices when something is not quite right before anyone says so.

What we can promise in return is that you will not be doing it alone, you will not be handed a rota that is impossible to travel, and you will not be left waiting to find out who to call at 9pm on a Sunday. Our on-call team answers.

Why people stay

What we offer

Full training provided

All of the required Care Certificate standards, delivered in-house by our own academy — not a link to an online module and good luck. New to care is genuinely welcome.

Apprenticeships

Earn while you train, with a recognised qualification at the end of it and a mentor alongside you throughout. A real route into the sector for people starting out or changing direction.

Development that keeps going

Specialist training in dementia, Parkinson's, stroke, end-of-life and complex care, plus refresher programmes throughout the year. There is no ceiling on what you can add.

Real progression

Senior carer, specialist practitioner, field supervisor, coordinator, trainer. Most of our office team started in the field, and that is not an accident.

Rotas you can actually work

Rounds planned geographically so travel time is realistic, and hours discussed with you rather than issued at you.

Supported practice

Regular supervision, shadowing before you work with someone new, and lone-working protections that are used rather than filed.

Getting hired

What the process looks like

We recruit directly rather than through agencies, and every pre-employment check is carried out by our own team — identity, right to work, references and an enhanced DBS check. No worker is ever charged a fee at any stage for being recruited by or employed with Skillcare.

You keep your own documents; we take copies for our records. You will have a written contract setting out your pay, hours and terms before you start, and you will be paid by bank transfer into an account in your own name.

No experience? Still get in touch

Some of the best carers we have ever employed came from retail, hospitality or caring for their own family. If you are reliable, kind and willing to learn, the training is our job.
